To the Editor:
I am writing in support of John Westfall-Kwong, candidate for Board of Education. My husband and I have been residents of Millburn-Short Hills since 1975, living in the South Mountain and Glenwood sections, and, presently in the Deerfield section. Our grown children attended the Millburn schools.
We chose to remain in town as empty nesters, so we speak on behalf of the large number of families in the community who do not presently have children in our schools but also who know that, among the things that make our community a great place to live, as well as help our property values, is our excellent school system.
We have known John and his family for six years as a friend and neighbor. He is dedicated member of the community being deeply involved in activities on behalf or our schools. For the past eight months John has been serving on the Board after being unanimously appointed to fill a vacated Board seat. He would like the opportunity to serve three more years.
John's work as a Senior Director in a non-profit organization has given him hands-on experience in successfully leading teams of various constituencies including staff, volunteer leadership and donors, but it is augmented by his ability to lead as well as engage as a team member in order to generate excitement and gain results through his interpersonal skills. John over 20 years of direct experience in making budgetary decisions through analysis and budgeting of finite resources, experience in strategic planning both at his paid job and though his role as co-leader of different phases of the school district's strategic planning process. His ability to think out side of the box has led to the revenue of his organization more than doubling over the past decade - in the face of an economic downturn and with many non-profits closing down or experiencing shrinking budgets.
I encourage everyone to view John's Website (WestfallKwongforBOE.com) for details of his vision and qualifications and to vote for him on November 5th.
