SHORT HILLS, NJ - New Eyes for the Needy, a nonprofit organization founded in 1932, has called 549 Millburn Avenue, Short Hills home since 1963. After several harsh winters and two bouts of vandalism, New Eyes’ building is now boasting a new fresh look thanks in part to a $3,180 grant from Investors Foundation.

“New Eyes is grateful to Investors Foundation for completing the funding to refurbish the exterior of our building,” said Jean Gajano, New Eyes Executive Director.  The nonprofit’s initial funding source could cover  the full cost of the work leaving New Eyes to either cancel the project  or appropriate funds from its eyeglass program.  “We did not want to divert funds from our eyeglass program for the financially needy”, said Gajano, “but thankfully Investors Foundation filled the gap and allowed us to move forward.”

New Eyes’ building was marred by peeling and chipped paint, requiring a thorough scraping and several coats of paint.  The exterior signs had been vandalized and broken over the last 18 months and needed replacement.

"Investors  is happy and proud to assist New Eyes, especially since our grant allows all individual financial donations to New Eyes go towards the purchase of eyeglasses for children and adults in need, both locally and nationally,” said Kim Kaminski, Investors Bank Assistant Vice President and Millburn Branch Manager. “We know how hard it is for a nonprofit to maintain infrastructure when its mission is its first and foremost priority and we are glad Investors could help New Eyes.”

Founded in 1932 by Short Hills resident Julia Lawrence Terry,  New Eyes for the Needy has brought clear vision to over 8 million people in need through its new prescription eyeglass program for United States residents and its used eyeglass program for the poor in developing countries. “New Eyes has relied on the generosity of local volunteers and businesses to accomplish much of our  mission throughout the years and Investors Foundation’s  assistance is another example of that, “ said Gajano. “New Eyes is truly fortunate to call this supportive community our home”.
