MILLBURN, NJ - Agron and Driola Kaloshi of New Providence, and proprietors of La Pergola in Millburn, recently opened their hearts and their restaurant to residents and friends of Elizabeth Barabash Manor, a senior citizens apartment complex on Academy Street in New Providence.
“We have lived in New Providence for 10 years,” said Agron Kaloshi. "Along with our children, we believe we are a vital and integral part of the community. It is our wish to do something for our seniors. We want to give back to all those who have made our lives easier, and our family welcome.”
According to New Providence Council member Bob Robinson, Elizabeth Barabash was a Russian emigrant who came to New Providence and became part of the educational system. Working with underprivileged children, she became a guiding light for the community. "The woman was remarkable," he said. "She gave back to everyone, and truly made a difference in the world."
Giving back to the community is a theme that the Kaloshis have embraced, and why they opened their door to this group of seniors.

"We truly appreciate the kind and generous offer of lunch from Agron and Driola,,” said resident Jim Cucco.
Guests were treated to a first course of bruschetta with fresh tomato and basil, and homemade focaccia. The second course featured salad with organic mixed greens, fresh carrots and balsamic dressing or Driola’s famous mushroom soup. A third course offered a choice of Chicken Paillard over Romaine hearts, string beans, red onion with red vinegar dressing; or pappardelle with wild mushrooms, fresh Spinach and heirloom tomatoes in a creamy sauce, or Tilapia Livornese with leeks, black olives, and plum tomato sauce. The lunch ended with tiramisu, coffee or tea.
“We put our heart and soul into our business,” said Agron Kaloshi. “We’ve lived locally in and around Manhattan and we really know what our clientele expects when they go out for lunch or dinner. We’re thrilled that we could open our hearts and our restaurant to let our New Providence senior citizens have a wonderful dining experience.”
La Pergola is located at 120 Essex Street in Millburn. Hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Moday to Saturday, and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, call 973-376-6838 or visit
