I hope everyone in Millburn is feeling healthy and your families are well.

Most Residents I talk to in town continuously ask me why can’t Millburn close down Main street from Starbucks to Fiamma, right in front of the Standard To traffic. Restaurants can only have minimal indoor seating so having that street designated to outdoor dining would be great for the town. I’m not sure if residents know but there is a very important town council vote on this issue Tuesday night June 16th.

I’d say, split the closed street and divide it up for 4-6 restaurants, so they can have one station each to make it fair, or prorate it based in occupancy. Close it for the Summer. If not the Summer, at least Friday through Sunday each week. If you do it for the Summer, maybe the town can get a big industrial tent to cover the street if it rains to protect tables and keep dining open, so weather doesn’t really matter.

I hope this is in the works already. With a bit of creativity it can work and be great for business and downtown.

Let Millburn set the tone. It’s great that the Recreation Department held out and now we have the town pool and town camps open For the Summer. 30 percent or so of townships just closed their Summer camps and town pool as it was easier. Millburn Rec Department stayed on their toes and now the residents will benefit as they are carefully opening the faculties strategically.

Let’s do the same for the restaurants downtown. They have suffered with small business, we need to help them survive and strive
