SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - Local resident Jan Kaminsky organized a Candlelight Peace Patrol on Tuesday night, after anti-Semitic graffiti was found on the pedestrian bridge in South Mountain Reservation earlier that day. The event organizers stated on Facebook, "our community was defaced by anti-Semitic graffiti. We will stand up and say that we will not accept this."

Meeting at the bridge where the graffiti had been found and removed, a group of about 30 people gathered, most holding candles and signs. Many assembled repeated the words "hate has no home here," and speakers discussed the importance of keeping children safe, adding "we will not be scared."

Another participant added, "it’s terribly upsetting to see the symbol used by the Nazis, and no matter how many swastikas are painted, we know hate has no home here but love does."

Those assembled also discussed the importance of having the graffiti cleaned-up quickly by the Essex County Parks, and their support for the Essex County Sheriff's department's installation of surveillance cameras in the area.

The event concluded with singing, including the Hatikvah, Israel's national anthem.
