On Friday night November 30, Millburn held its second annual Battle of the Classes.

SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) organized this event along with class officers from each grade level.  The Battle was the culmination of Millburn High School’s Spirit Week, during which students dressed up for theme days: Pajama Day, Decades Day, Halloween Day, Holidays and on Friday, Class Color Day and earned points by grade for participating in the activities. On Friday, the Sophomore “Red” Class won the hallway decorating contest with their circus theme.

As part of the competition, SADD invited other clubs to promote their causes: the Make-A-Wish club had coin wars in which one-third of the donations went to Sandy Relief, one-third to Make A Wish, and the other one-third to the class that won coin wars (Sophomores).  The Key Club had a food drive in which the class that brought in the most food won points towards the Battle (Seniors).    The autism awareness club had a raffle.

The Battle of the Classes event itself took place on Friday night, with an entry fee of $5 per ticket, with the money split between the winning class and SADD. Battle events included a scooter relay, egg toss, eating contest, tug of war, and other contests, with a finale of a team dance off. At the end of the week, and the evening, the Blue Senior Class was the overall winner.

SADD is an organization that promotes safe choices for teens, and they use the money raised to purchase awareness materials and attend conferences for ideas.  This was an effort by the group to create a fun and safe school event for their peers. According to teacher and SADD advisor Jennifer Manis, “It was a great competition in the name of school spirit and charity as we competed to see who is the best class! It was a fun week filled with charity and school pride!”

Freshman Class - green

Sophomores - red

Juniors - white
