MILLBURN, NJ - Millburn High School hosted the first annual Holi Party on the back soccer field of MHS on Sunday, May 21, and the event was a smashing success. Students from all grade levels, throughout the high school and middle school, turned out to show their support for South Asian Culture. During the event, students enjoyed regional foods, such as samosas and kebabs, and enjoyed treats from an ice cream truck.
Organized and led by the President of Millburn High School’s South Asian Cultural Club Nikhita Mahendru, the Holi Party proved the impact cultural awareness can have on creating a more cohesive and convivial society. Students from the club worked together to create an authentic environment where everyone could celebrate the true spirit of Holi. From Bollywood music to the vibrant Holi powder, all aspects of South Asian Culture were present and celebrated.
Mahendru looks to expand on such cultural events by organizing Bollywood Movie nights and Diwali Parties. In addition to unifying the student body through awareness of the various cultures present in the area, her ultimate goal is for the club to be able to fundraise for educational support for underprivileged children.
The event could not have been a success without the help of Dr. Miron, Mrs. Wofsy, club advisor Mrs. Ricci, and the dedicated members of the South Asian Cultural Club.
