MILLBURN, NJ - A local Millburn family is joining with friends, peers and family to celebrate the life and creative contributions of poet Joe Salerno. The Paper Mill Playhouse plays host to the Joe Salerno Memorial Poetry Reading on Sunday, May 7, in the Carriage House. Salerno was a frequent participant in the South Mountain Poetry Group that just celebrated its 30th anniversary.
The program will include many of Joe's friends and fellow poets reading their favorites of his work, including Joe Weil, Sander Zulaf, Emanuel DiPasquale, David Tucker, Marylin Mohr, Frank Finale, and D.M. Dutcher. Joe's siblings, children, and grandchildren, two of who attend South Mountain School, will also be reading.
It has been more than 20 years since Joe Salerno passed away at the young age of 47, and for just as long his loved ones have come together annually to honor his legacy.
The Joe Salerno Memorial Poetry Reading runs from 3 pm to 6 pm and will include about 90 minutes of Joe's poetry, followed by a reception hosted by Joe's family. The event is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required because space is limited.
