MILLBURN, NJ - The Millburn High School (MHS) Girl Up Club is making a difference as they raised awareness, and $1500, with their most recent event, hosting a walk for the Global 5K Walk. Millburn High School students came together hosting the event on June 10 at the South Mountain Recreation Complex Waterfront. Over 40 member of the community came out to the walk and many more supported the effort with online donations.

“It was a very successful event and a fun walk. We raised close to $1,500 against a target of $500. Our team made it to the top 10 in funds raised globally by Girl Up Clubs for the Walk,” said Raashi Jain, President of the MHS Girls Up Club.

As the United Nations Foundation’s adolescent girl campaign, Girl Up engages girls to take action. Led by a community of nearly half a million passionate advocates raising awareness and funds, Girl Up clubs help the hardest to reach girls living in places where it is hardest to be a girl. The Girl Up campaign is about Impact. As a campaign of the United Nations Foundation, Girl Up is proud to report that 87% of the donations go to support girls around the world. This year, Girl Up clubs across the globe combined forces to hold a Global 5K Walk to raise money for a UNICEF-led program in Liberia that is helping girls go back to school, stay healthy, and avoid harmful traditional practices.
