Millburn Girls Swim Team Takes Third in Super Essex Conference Championships

MILLBURN, NJ - The Millburn High School girls swim team took part in the Super Essex Conference (SEC) Championships at the Raritan Bay YMCA in Perth Amboy on Monday, January 16. The Girl's team (169.4) finished third, less than ten points behind Caldwell (176.3) and first place trophy holder, West Orange (179.2). Millburn's 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams made up of seniors, Abby Hartwig and Jonina Mignon, junior, Megan Balbo, and freshman, Alyssa Levy, prevailed with a Meet of Champions qualifying time (3:42.99) in the 400. Balbo also qualified in 500 free (5:12.35) and won the 200 free (1:58.41).
A week later, on Tuesday, January 24, the MHS Girls swam head-to-head against Caldwell (8-3). The Millers decisively defeated Caldwell's strong squad by twenty-six points (98-72), and victory was sweet as it was the first time since 2012 that Millburn came out on top of the Chiefs. 
Two days later, Newark Academy hosted a rematch, of sorts, between the top two teams in the Super Essex Conference, Millburn (10-0) and West Orange (8-1-1). Coach Christopher D'Anna was cautiously optimistic going into the meet because one never knows what will happen at these unpredictable match-ups. MHS Girls demonstrated talent and depth as they confidently defeated W.O. (98-72) for their tenth victory in a row. 
After two definitive wins against SEC rivals - West Orange and Caldwell - and with NJSIAA Championships on the horizon, the Millburn Millers Girls Swim Team is eager to face its next solid contender, Columbia (7-2-1), on Tuesday,  January 31.
