MILLBURN, NJ - The Millburn High School girls cross country teams ran away with the Super Essex Conference American Division championship at Branch Brook Park in Newark this week. The junior varsity squad outpaced six other teams to bring home first place while the varsity team showed with a third-place finish.
The girls varsity finished behind only West Orange and Montclair, respectively. Nine teams make up the American Division conference.
Senior Remy Haggerty placed second overall with an impressive personal record by .01 in 19.48. Sophmore Aoife Weiss also ran a personal record by .50 in 21,19., coming in 14th place. Senior Katelyn Zegas placed 15th in 21.22. Promising freshman Daniella van Roon came in 21.44 placing 21st overall.
The Millburn High School JV win came on the backs of strong performances by Gigi Nemerow 22.54, a vunior achieving her personal record by .28 seconds coming in fourth place overall and Sophomore Isabella Song 23.09 taking 5th overall. Sophomore Sarah VonBevern came in 9th place 24.01, Senior Olivia Stack placed 11th overall 24.06, and Senior Betsy Muller placed 16th in 24.41 among a pack of 107 athletes.
The varsity and JV girls next compete Saturday at the Shore Coaches 43rd annual Invitational in Holmdel Park.
