MILLBURN, NJ - "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" at Millburn High School was a roaring success. The show's plot centers around a spelling bee filled with kids who were all great spellers, but have other issues that were revealed throughout the play.

Carly Maitlin, who played Leaf’s sister and a motivational dancer, told The Alternative Press she enjoyed the whole experience.

"It was really nice," she said. "It was my first year in limelight. It blows every show I’ve ever been in away.”

She added that being in this show "really completed her high school life."

Leonard Santos, who played Leaf Coneybear, said doing the play was an incredible experience.

“We’ve become a family. I’ve made so many best friends in this one production,” he said.

Santos has also been in the productions of Once Upon a Mattress, Anything Goes, Damn Yankees, and Legally Blonde.

“It was the most fun role I’ve ever had to play," he said of his character. "He is a lot like me.”

Max Sauberman, who played William Barfée, called the show “an amazing experience."

"We were as close as a family, and we’re all really sad that it’s the last performance, but were excited for the spring drama.” Of his character, he said, “Playing Barfée was fun. In some ways we’re similar and in some ways we're different.”

All the cast had great voices and witty lines. There was even some improvisation involved which they carried out nicely.
