The Millburn boys and girls Spring Track teams continue to have great success this season. Junior Miriam Wolk continued her streak of winning all of her races by capturing the County, Conference and State Sectional crowns in the 400m and 800m. She improved upon her school-record time in the 400m at Sectionals this past weekend, which was also one of the top times run in the whole state this year. Wolk will compete in both races at State Groups this weekend, looking to move on to the Meet of Champions the following weekend.
Following in Wolk’s steps, Junior Zach Liu-Walter also won the 800m at State Sectionals, setting the school record in that race. He finished fourth in the 400m. The 4x800m team of Liu-Walter, Junior Evan Feldman and Seniors Ishaan Vora and Andrew Meyer went on to finish third at Sectionals last weekend (missing second place by 0.2 seconds and first by 2 seconds). They are moving on to Groups this weekend with high hopes of competing in the Meet of Champions. Meyer also finished fifth in the 800m just behind Liu-Walter and moves on to Groups as well. Feldman had tough competition in a very competitive Section, finishing 10th in the 1600m and 9th in the 3200m.
In recent weeks, Liu-Walter also finished second in the 800m, with Meyer in fifth place at the Essex County Championship. Feldman finished second in the 3200 and third in the 1600 at the County Championship as well. The 4x800m team also won the County Championships in that event (with the second-fastest time in school history), with the same four runners also winning the Distance Medley Relay crown.
Liu-Walter also won the 800m at the SEC Conference Championship with Meyer again in fifth place, while Feldman finished second in both the 1600m and the 3200m at the Championship meet.
In addition, Millburn Junior Emily Mayo won the 1600m and finished fourth in the 800m at the Conference Championship, with Junior Abigail Klein taking fifth in the 1600mm and Freshman Lena Cakulev getting third in the 1600m and fellow Freshman Lily Bigman getting eight in the 400m. Mayo went on to second place in the 1600m at the County Championship, with Cakulev right behind in fourth place. Mayo went on to finish her strong season with a solid 12th place finish in the 1600m at State Sectionals, right ahead of Klein in 14th and behind Cakulev in ninth place. Bigman also finished 13th at Sectionals in the 400m.
All the Spring Track coaches at Millburn are extremely proud of the hard work all these students have put in this season with solid results all around, particularly after missing last season due to COVID-19. The team looks forward to more success at this weekend’s State Group 3 Championship meet in Pennsauken, with high hopes of sending Wolk, Liu-Walter, Meyer and the boys 4x800m relay team on to the Meet of Champions the following week.
