Millburn High School's Winter Dance Concert Earns Standing Ovation

MILLBURN, NJ -  The Millburn High School Fine Arts Department and the MHS Dance club presented its seventh annual Winter Dance Concert on Friday and Saturday, January 10 and 11.  Directed by the school’s dance teacher Mr. Arvin Arjona, the performers of the show came from both his accelerated dance classes as well as the Milburn High School Dance Company. The concert featured sixteen routines that featured several styles of dance, including ballet, hip hop, musical theater, and step dancing.

“To see the girls progress over the years and improve and bring it to another level- that’s priceless,” stated Arjona. Besides directing the school dance concert, he has also recently led the Dance Company in performing at the Orange Bowl, an annual college football game in Florida.

Bradley Bunn serves as the dance club’s president, while Hannah Hayden and Evalina Patino act as the club’s vice-presidents. “It’s really tough. You stumble, you fall, and then you have to go back and go through things and make sure it’s perfect. But then when you get on stage, everything just pays off,” stated Alyx Ruibal, a member of the Dance Company. She was one of five featured dancers in the show, dancing to the song “Homeless” by Imogen Heap.

Other featured dancers included Emma Quong and Anna Antselevich in “Take the Lead” by Lena Horne feat. Q-tip, Emma Eichler in “Once Upon a Time” by La Nouba in Cirque du Soleil, and Bradley Bunn in “Say Something” by A Great Big World.

The dance team now looks forward to performing again for their spring concert.
