Millburn Police Department Thwarts Fraud and Forgery Attempts; Respond To Two Thefts at the Apple Store

On April 18, 2017 Millburn Police Officer Lanni stopped a 2003 Acura 3.2 on Essex St when his license plate reader showed the registered owner had a suspended license and had an outstanding traffic warrant out of Millburn. The driver, 19 year old Usman Maqsood out of Union, was placed under arrest and brought to headquarters. Mr. Maqsood was brought into the court while it was in session.

On April 18, 2017 Millburn Police Officer Pinero responded to Neiman Marcus on a theft report. Neiman Marcus personnel report 25 year old Karee Williams out of East Orange took 7 articles of clothing valued at $1965.00 and left the store without making payment. Mr. Williams was confronted by loss prevention Officers who attempted to stop him, however Mr. Williams pushed one loss prevention officer and struggled with another officer before fleeing in a 2005 BMW X5. Detective Derosa stopped the BMW on Rt 78 East and the investigation led to the arrest of Mr. Williams for robbery and the 24 year old driver Yahnaisa Batemon out of Newark on outstanding criminal warrants out of Union and Newark. Mr. Williams was remanded to the Essex County Correctional Facility, and Ms. Batemon was released with  new court dates.  

On April 19, 2017 Millburn Police Officer McMillan responded to the Apple store at The Mall at Short Hills on a theft report. Apple personnel report 24 year old Tawan Moses out of East Orange took 4 pairs of headphones valued at $1199.96 and left the store without making payment. Mr. Moses was placed under arrest and issued a summons for shoplifting. Mr. Moses was turned over to the East Orange Police Department on an outstanding criminal warrant.

On April 21, 2017 Millburn Police Sgt Michael Fattal stopped a 2015 Volkswagen on Essex/Main after it disregarded the red traffic signal by Lot 1. The investigation led to the arrest of 25 year old Danielle Palmieri out of Flanders for possession of a controlled dangerous substance (marijuana) and possession of drug paraphernalia. Ms.Palmieri was issued a summons and released.

On April 21, 2017 Millburn Police Officer Crawn responded to the Chase Bank at 279 Millburn Ave on a forgery report. Chase Bank personnel report 52 year old Thomas Degracia out of NY, NY attempted to cash a fraudulent check for $4231.75. The investigation led to the arrest of Mr. Degracia for forgery, hindering, receiving stolen property, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Mr. Degracia was remanded to the Essex County Correctional Facility.

On April 21, 2017 Millburn Police Officer Marone responded to Stone and Tile Design at 519 Millburn Ave on credit card fraud report. Stone and Tile personnel report an unknown actor used a stolen credit card and ordered $5533.58 worth of tile which was shipped to New York. The incident is under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.

On April 21, 2017 Millburn Police Officer Royce stopped an Infiniti Q50 on Essex/Spring for driving without headlights/taillights. The investigation led to the arrest of 67 year old Maria Stravato out of Springfield for driving under the influence. Mrs. Stravato was issued a summons and released.

On April 22, 2017 Millburn Police Officer Barbosa responded to the Apple store at The Mall at Short Hills on a theft report. Apple personnel report 58 year old Vincent Ciasullo out of East Hanover concealed a hard drive valued at $199.95 and left the store without making payment. Mr. Ciasullo was placed under arrest and found to have 6 additional items valued at $468.00 that were stolen from Nordstroms. Mr. Ciasullo was issued a summons and released.

On April 22, 2017 Millburn Police Detective Derosa observed 18 year old Levi Reynolds out of Irvington acting suspiciously and carrying an empty shopping bag as he entered Bloomingdales. Detective Derosa was notified by Bloomingdales shortly after that Mr. Reynolds had concealed $254.50 worth of merchandise in the bag and left the store without making payment. Detective Derosa attempted to stop Mr. Reynolds who ran through the mall and resisted arrest after being stopped by Officer Recinos. Mr. Reynolds was taken into custody and charged with shoplifting, resisting arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Mr. Reynolds was remanded to the Essex County Correctional Facility.

On April 23, 2017 Millburn Police Lieutenant Ronceray and Officer Royce stopped a 2002 Acura TL on Crest Drive at 1:01 am for being in the park after 10:00 pm. The investigation led to the arrest of 39 year old Kylif Charles out of Newark and 34 year old Cindra Critchlow out of Montclair for possession of a controlled dangerous substance (marijuana) and possession of drug paraphernalia. Mr. Charles and Ms. Critchlow was issued a summons and released.

On April 23, 2017 Millburn Police Officer Crawn responded to the Florham Park Police Department on a warrant arrest. Mark Poveromo, age 33 out of Florham Park, was placed under arrest on an outstanding Millburn criminal warrant and remanded to the Essex County Correctional Facility.

On April 24, 2017 Millburn Police Officer Czupak stopped a 2002 Nissan Altima at Millburn/Wyoming for an inoperable headlight. The investigation led to the arrest of the 20 year old driver Alpha Kaba out of Newark for possession of a controlled dangerous substance (marijuana) and possession of drug paraphernalia. Mr. Kaba was issued a summons and released.

On April 24, 2017 Millburn Police Officer Kostovski responded to a Minnisink Road residence on a burglary report. The resident reports between April 16-19, 2017 unknown actor/s entered the residence after breaking a second story bedroom window. The victim states several rooms were ransacked and a coin collection valued at $10,000.00 was taken. The incident is under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.
