MILLBURN, NJ - A Millburn resident was the victim of an early-morning carjacking at the Short Hills train station.
Police said at approximately 6:15 this morning, a 2011 Land Rover was stolen from a Slope Drive residence in Short Hills. A second vehicle, a 2002 Subaru, was seen leaving the area. Both vehicles were driven by black males, and each was accompanied by another black male. The suspects made their way to Municipal Lot 3 of the Short Hills Train Station where they jumped from their vehicles and brandished two firearms at a township resident. The suspects then stole the victim's money and his 2011 Mercedes Benz.
As the three vehicle sped through downtown Millburn, they were observed by an off-duty Millburn police officers, who followed them and advised the police department of their location.
In the area of Millburn Avenue and Wyoming Avenue the Subaru experienced mechanical problems, causing the suspects to bail out and jump into the other two stolen vehicles.
The suspect vehicles were then observed by South Orange Police Department, who lost them on North Wyoming Avenue in South Orange.
This matter is under investigation by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and assisted by the Millburn Police Department.
