Millburn Scuba Instructors to Stay Underwater for 24 Hours to Raise Money to Fight Cancer

Rob Morris
Chris Province

MILLBURN, NJ - Local scuba instructors Rob Morris and Chris Province will be spending a full 24 hours underwater in an effort to “Drown Out Cancer.”  Morris and Province, who teach scuba diving out of the Underwater Adventures Dive Center in Short Hills, will be diving into the KimSwim Pool Academy pool in Denville on Friday, Aug. 2 at noon, and will remain there until Saturday noon.  They hope to raise a significant amount of money to donate to the American Cancer Society.

Morris has participated in amazing athletic feats before, having bicycled around the world, and completede a 31-hour skiing marathon to raise money for the American Heart Association.  He struck upon this novel way to raise money for the American Cancer Society after losing another loved one to cancer.

“Most people’s lives have been touched by cancer in some way,” Morris said.  “Unfortunately, mine has been touched too many times.”  Morris has lost his brother-in-law, sister-in-law, mother-in-law and a good friend to cancer.  His sister and another sister-in-law are battling the disease right now.  “I had to find a way to raise awareness and raise some money to fight back against cancer,” he said.

When Morris asked his good friend and fellow instructor Province to join him in the effort, he did not hesitate.  With the support of Underwater Adventures and KimSwim Pool Academy, the two will be joined by family and friends to help them swap out air tanks while underwater. The public is invited. There will even be food and entertainment poolside to add to the event.

KimSwim Pool Academy is located on Route 46 in Denville, behind Richie’s Music.

Underwater Adventures is at 508 Millburn Ave., Short Hills, (973) 258-1300.

Donations (made payable to American Cancer Society) may be sent to: Rob Morris, 15 Oak Lane, Randolph, NJ, 07869.
