MILLBURN, NJ - Despite inclement weather, on Wednesday morning, Oct. 24,  the Millburn/Short Hills Chamber of Commerce held a “Business at Breakfast” networking event at Charlie Brown’s on Main Street and there was a strong turnout of approximately 40 members and soon-to-be-members.

President of the Chamber, Ileana Martin–Novoa, said after meeting with committees during the summer, they decided the Chamber should have more events where members could get to know each other. So, she and the board decided to try having a networking breakfast.

“This was a great turnout and we are hoping that we can have them every month,” she said.

The Chamber is really about networking, building relationships and opportunities, she said. Not only do people get to know each other, but the Chamber website provides exposure for the businesses that are members and Chamber members are able to participate in Chamber Conversations, a featured column on The Alternative Press.

“I think it’s very beneficial because people like doing business with people they know,” Martin-Novoa said.

She was extremely grateful to Charlie Brown’s for hosting the event. It is a wonderful place with great food and it is a big part of the Chamber, she said.

Haydee Baculi, who has been in the restaurant business for 13 years, is the assistant general manager of Charlie Brown's. She said growing up in Brooklyn is quite different than Millburn, but she loves here. She enjoys the small community, the people and being part of the Chamber.

She said her highlight of each day is putting a smile on a customer’s face. The Chamber has helped her with business and Baculi said it is a great organization. She is excited to continue hosting the breakfast, she added.

“I think it benefits us and everybody else,” she said.

Former Livingston Chamber of Commerce President Michael McMane also attended the event. McMane, who is a financial advisor for Key Wealth Management, said the Chamber is an essential function for a business in any community and it’s really about helping people.

“The Chamber is a really great place to get your image out and meet people,” McMane said. “When you go to the Chamber, you’re really looking to make relationships.”
