MILLBURN, NJ – Friends, family and Millburn Police Officers gathered at Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Monday to pay final respects to Millburn Police Officer Sean Cassels, who died unexpectedly on Aug. 2.
Cassels began his law enforcement career with the West Orange Police Department in 2009, and was hired by the Millburn Police Department in 2011. Cassels worked in the patrol division, where he earned a commendation in February 2012 for the apprehension of two individuals installing a credit card skimmer on a gas pump and a commendation in June 2015 for the apprehension of two armed individuals who fled from a carjacked vehicle.
“Sean always had a smile on his face,” said Captain Michael Mulligan of the Millburn Police Department. “He was an officer you could count on at all times, he will be greatly missed.”
Born in Montclair, Cassels was a long time resident of West Orange. He began his career in law enforcement after graduating from Montclair State University.
Cassels is survived by his wife Jessica and sons Michael, Patrick and Jameson.
