SHORT HILLS, NJ - Motivating children to read and write over the summer is essential. The Summer Reading and Writing Workshop motivates children to engage in creative writing and a high depth of reading comprehension which supports their interests without the external pressure of grades and testing. Throughout this program, children will develop writing and/or reading skills using subjects they choose in an engaging and interactive experience, and it’s fun! Because they choose the type of writing and books to read which interest them most, they are more motivated to succeed! All classes are based on common core standards.
The Summer Writing Workshop Classes are taught by Glenwood School teacher Sara August, an experienced writing teacher and reading specialist who has taught in the Millburn Public Schools for 15 years.
Classes are held locally in small groups of no more than 5 students, guaranteeing individual attention and instruction. Students will create assignments for themselves and receive written feedback on all work throughout the class.
Studies can be done individually or within small groups. Writing classes can be taught in most genres: narrative, non-fiction, historical, argument, fantasy writing, poetry, short stories, and many more.
Reading groups can study authors, fantasy, classic fiction, historical, assigned books, non-fiction, graphic novels and many more.
