Millburn Township's Complete Streets Construction Update for July 25

MILLBURN, NJ - Millburn Township officials announced that the present construction on Main Street (between Millburn Ave. and Essex St.) will continue for approximately one month and advises residents to adhere to all detours, both road and sidewalk, by staying out of cordoned off areas and construction sites at all times.

During the week of July 25, Flanagan Construction will place electrical conduits for future underground wiring, will install a drainage system and continue with framing and pouring of concrete for curbs and sidewalks.

During this same period of time various utilities will be conducting work in the Main Street area. PSE&G will be replacing the gas main from Millburn Avenue to Essex Street, JCP&L will be placing three poles (two on Main, one on the corner of Main St. and Millburn Ave.) and NJAW will be relocating two fire hydrants.

Last week, Township contractors completed milling of Main St as well as the demolition of the sidewalk.  They also set the stone base for the sidewalk and started forming and pouring some areas with concrete.

All businesses on Main Street between Essex Street and Millburn Ave are open for business during Complete Streets Construction. Businesses include:

Detour information:

Main Street Northbound: at Millburn Ave turn right and proceed east until the intersection of Essex Street (Annie Sez), turn left and proceed west on Essex Street. At third traffic light, turn right and precede north on Main Street/Old Short Hills Road.

Main Street Southbound: at Essex Street turn right and proceed west until Douglas Street. Turn left on Douglas Street (Fire Station) and proceed south to Millburn Avenue. At Millburn Avenue, turn left and proceed west until first traffic light. At first traffic light, turn night and proceed south on Main Street.

Phase 1 of Complete Streets construction is expected to last through the fall with an anticipated completion date in November. The Downtown area will remain open for business and pedestrian foot traffic during construction.

On July 11, 2018 Millburn Police Officer Shanahan stopped a 2014 Honda Accord on Millburn/Vauxhall for speeding.
