SHORT HILLS, NJ – A different kind of workout has come to town at a new exercise studio called SLT: Strengthen-Lengthen-Tone, at 518 Millburn Avenue. Owner Amanda Freeman discovered the machine known as the Megformer at the workout studio of Simon Lagree in Los Angeles. This evolution of the Pilates concept brings together strength training and cardio elements to deliver a complete workout.
After falling in love with the Megaformer workout, Freeman decided to bring it to the east coast and already has studios in New York City, the Hamptons and Westchester. Freeman grew up in Short Hills, so is excited to open her newest studio here.
“It’s a combination of Pilates, strength training and cardio,” said Freeman. “Music is incorporated into the classes. We play loudish, fun, motivating music. It’s about moving slowly within the moves to help lengthen your muscles. And then we move quickly between the moves and you really break a sweat. It’s a heart-pumping, sweat-inducing fun workout. And it goes by really quickly. People say, ‘I can’t believe class is over.’”
Freeman explained that every class is different, so it never gets boring. Because the instructors have so many moves to choose from, they try to keep participants guessing. It is a challenging workout and does require some base level of fitness. Group classes are limited to ten participants, so everyone will get enough personal attention.
