CHARLOTTE, NC - You all saw what happened. You all witnessed history.

But did you know a former Jonathan Dayton basketball player, who helped lead the Bulldogs to an NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 1 state title in 2012-13, is on the University of Maryland-Baltimore County men’s basketball roster?

Junior guard Isaiah Rogers, who served as UMBC’s team’s manager in 2016-17, played in two games this season for the Retrievers (25-10), who just shocked the world mere hours ago and rewrote the history books becoming the first 16th-seed ever to beat a No. 1 seed as UMBC routed Virginia, 74-54, in the South Region’s first round of the NCAA Tournament at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

UMBC advanced to Sunday’s second round and will face ninth-seeded Kansas State (23-11) with a berth to the Sweet 16 on the line at 7:45 p.m. on truTV.

“It was so surreal. We knew we were going to win, but never could of anticipated winning by a 20-point margin,” said Rogers at around 1 a.m. this morning via Twitter. “We knew going into the game all the pressure was on them and that all we had to do was speed them up and play our game. We have a lot of offensive weapons and our defense has improved tremendously, so we just wanted to leave it all on the floor tonight and we did. So proud and excited right now.”

The 6-foor-2, 185-pounder, who is majoring in biological sciences and is the only player from New Jersey on the team, began his college career at St. Thomas (Fla.) University, where he was a member of the junior varsity team.

Rogers, who also played for the Dayton Bulldogs football team for two seasons, helped lead the Bulldogs to a 22-6 record and a Group 1 Finals appearance. In his senior season, he was the team’s second-leading scorer with 298 points (11.9 ppg) in 25 games played and led the team in 3-pointers with 34.

Isaiah’s younger brother, Joseph, also played for the Bulldogs and Isaiah’s parents Tammy (track and field) and Nate (basketball), both competed on the collegiate level at Seton Hall.
