Nine Recent Union High School Grads Charged in $26k Burglary at School

UNION, NJ – Nine suspects have been charged with the burglary that occurred at Union High School on June 29, resulting in the theft of $26,000 in cash and other property.

Union police say a secretary at the High School contacted police at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 29, after she found her desk damaged.  She reported that she had an unusually large amount of cash locked in a drawer due to fees collected as the school year concluded. 

Police viewed the school’s surveillance cameras which showed individuals breaking into the school at about 1:30 a.m.  According to the surveillance footage, the individuals wandered around the school until they reached the main office where they forced open desk drawers.

Working with the school principal and vice principal, police were able to identify the suspects.  Detectives viewed footage from exterior surveillance cameras and observed the vehicle used by the suspects.  Detectives later found and stopped the vehicle.  Based on evidence found, police arrested the driver and one of the other men.

Arrested on June 29 was Fernando Cunha III and Joshua Cipriano.  They have been charged with burglary and theft.

According to police, detectives were able to identify the remaining suspects.  The following suspects have been charged with burglary and theft:

Kevin X. Rea

Cristian Pereira

Marlon Roberts

Joshua Monica

Jason Laurent

A 17-year old juvenile

Nicholas Zuena was charged with criminal trespass.

Police say all suspects appear to be residents of Union and are recent graduates of Union High School.  The six adult suspects have an initial court appearance on August 18.

According to police, known missing at this time is approximately $26,000, a school iPad, a bullhorn, and other school property. Police have not yet recovered the property.
