NJ Festival Orchestra Announces Dynamic New 2017-2018 Season

The New Jersey Festival Orchestra has unveiled plans for its 35th anniversary season. Audiences can expect a series of dynamic musical celebrations to rival anything in New York City and beyond.

The 2017-18 concert program of the New Jersey Festival Orchestra entitled “Voices of Distinction” promises five spectacular programs centered around words, stories, and music.

“The human voice irresistibly and directly plugs in to the human heart and condition, with song acting as an unfettered declamation of the soul,” says NJFO Music Director David Wroe. “Combining these enchanting qualities with the mighty forces of our Symphony Orchestra has allowed us to create a series of programs that go beyond pure sonority, promising to conjure up in our minds places, experiences, narratives, and tangible feelings.”

The season celebration begins dramatically with sparkling works by Vaughan William and Mozart and features internationally acclaimed virtuoso Stefan Milenkovich performing Paganini's B minor violin concerto, one of the most dazzling scores ever created for the instrument.

Audiences are invited to celebrate the holiday season with some of New Jersey’s most popular holiday traditions. In December, last year’s darling, award-winning tenor Cody Austin, returns with friends to present a selection of renowned tenor fare, symphonic pops and wintertime favorites guaranteed to make the season merry.

The festivities continue on New Year’s Eve with Puttin’on the Ritz, a superb revue of American musical theater classics presented in glorious symphonic splendor featuring renowned guests direct from the Broadway stage and beyond.

The anniversary season continues in March with one of opera’s most enduring tales of unrequited passion: Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. A cast of internationally acclaimed guest performers assembled from Maestro Wroe’s extensive contacts in European and American opera houses joins NJFO to present, acted and in costume, this most heart-rending of stories, breathtakingly beautiful from first love to love child to tragic end.

The 2017-2018 season comes to glorious conclusion with a musical portrait of London. The sounds of Big Ben, the colossus of St Paul's Cathedral, the hustle-bustle of Piccadilly Circus, the vast horizons of this mighty city are all captured in works by British icons Elgar and Vaughan Williams.

Continued Maestro Wroe: “Without a doubt, this is a season of celebration! With a song in our hearts, this year NJ Festival Orchestra aspires to transport you beyond the ordinary to a place of spiritual ecstasy. I for one can’t wait for the festivities to begin!”

Commented NJFO Board President Keith S. Hertell: “Our beloved NJ Festival Orchestra has reached a milestone as we celebrate its 35th anniversary season. I hope that you will join me at the concerts and save the date for our grand celebration gala on April 29th  2018 at Echo Lake Country Club.”

Apart from the season opening concert at Morristown St Peter’s Church on Friday October 13 at 8pm, performances will take place on Saturday evenings at the Presbyterian Church in Westfield and on Sunday afternoons at Drew University in Madison.
