MILLBURN, NJ -  On September 26, supporters of Millburn-based Opportunity Project came out to golf and dine in support of the organization which is the first and only free-standing Clubhouse model in New Jersey that provides programming, rehabilitation and empowerment for people living with brain injury. Held at Brooklake Country Club in Florham Park, Opportunity Project’s Annual Golf Classic helps fund the many brain injury programs including The Nutrition Program, The Health and Wellness Program, The Vocation Unit, and community awareness initiatives to increase knowledge of brain injury prevention.

This year’s event also highlighted the importance of concussion awareness. Brain injuries, like concussions, are a leading cause of death and disability in America. According to the CDC, concussions are one of the most common forms of brain injury, effecting an estimated 1.6 to 3.8 million people each year.

Golfers had the opportunity to participate in an auction and raffle with unique prize offerings like tickets to the U.S. Open, dinner for four at Rao’s, and other reward packages. Steve Adubato PhD, Emmy Award winning Anchor, Channel Thirteen/WNET PBS, & Author of "You Are the Brand” teamed with Opportunity Project as a special guest host for the event which secured more than $250,000 in donations from participants and sponsors.

“We appreciate that our donors and supporters were willing to take the time to come out and support Opportunity Project,” said Carol Albanese, Executive Director of Opportunity Project. “Their generous contributions enable us to continue our work helping people with brain injury to reclaim their lives and achieve their individual goals.”

The 2016 Opportunity Project Golf Classic was hosted by co-chairs Eileen Sudler, Sal Davino, Jacob S. Buurma, Chris Johnson, Murray Kushner, Jonathan Sobel, Jared Levine, Marshall Freidus, David Genova and Marc E. Berson. Event sponsors included Barnabas Health, Century 21 Construction, The Fidelco Group, Fidelity, The Freidus Family, Hollister Construction, Kushner Real Estate Group, The David Mandelbaum Family and the Sudler Family Foundation.

The Opportunity Project Clubhouse is a unique program created by and for people with brain injuries who are seeking the next step in their journey to recovery. Beginning with 5 members, it has now serves over 500 individuals. The program is a national model for Clubhouses and other community-based service programs for people with brain injury throughout the country. Providing an environment of support, challenge and choices, the ultimate goal is full reintegration back into the family, work and community after one sustains a brain injury. Opportunity Project’s motto- no one is turned away due to lack of funding- sets them apart from others in the brain injury field.
