MILLBURN, NJ - The last time Paper Mill Playhouse held open-call auditions for The Sound of Music, a young man named Nick Jonas ended up on the stage. Could it happen again?
Paper Mill Playhouse has announced non-union, children’s auditions for the theater’s production of The Sound of Music on Saturday, Sept. 15. The Sound of Music will run at the Millburn Theater from Friday, Nov. 23 through Dec. 30. Rehearsals begin Monday, Oct. 29 in New York City.
For this year's production, Paper Mill Playhouse is looking for girls who look ages 6-16 and boys who look ages 12-16. Children and their guardian should join the line in front of the theater and enter through the front doors of the theater only.
Audition sign up will take place in the theater’s lobby on a first-come, first-served basis on Saturday, Sept. 15. Sign-up for ages 6 to 11 begin at 9 a.m. and sign up for ages 12 to 16 begin at noon Every child should have a picture and resume stapled together.
Any child who auditions must bring sheet music in the appropriate key and style and be prepared to sing 16 bars only. An accompanist will be provided and recorded music is not permitted. Children should wear appropriate footwear as they may be asked to dance. Callbacks will be held on the same day. Depending on the number of children auditioning, there is no guarantee everyone will be seen.

Hoebee, Paper Mill Playhouse’s Producing Artistic Director. “Nick went on to become a major star both in the recording industry and on Broadway. Could the next Nick Jonas be at these auditions? I sure hope so!”
