ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — All eyes are on the Essex County Sheriff primary race. Three Democratic candidates are on the ballot, but the main event seems to be between incumbent Democrat Sheriff Armando Fountoura on “Line A” and Democrat John Arnold on “Line C”.
Fountoura has been serving for over three decades. He is the longest-serving Sheriff in Essex history.
If elected, John Arnold, a pastor and retired law enforcement executive would be the first Black Sheriff to be elected in the history of Essex County.
Most other candidates are running unopposed.
Polls open at 6 am and close at 8 pm. To find your polling location, visit the Essex County Clerk website.
