SHORT HILLS, NJ - The Racquets Club of Short Hills partnered with FLAG (Front Line Appreciation Group), a Millburn based nonprofit organization, to provide supper for Millburn Township First Responders yesterday. The club has a rich history, including having been the site of the very first school built in Short Hills. The members and staff remain deeply engaged in Millburn Township and has welcomed every opportunity to serve the community.
“When several of our members suggested the opportunity to support FLAG to the Racquets Club board, it was a no-brainer to support our frontline public servants who have served our community so well, particularly during the COVID-19 crisis. I’m proud that our club is composed of members with such a strong commitment to the Millburn/Short Hills community” said board president Nicolas Volpicelli.
Many members of the Racquets Club are active participants in local, national and global outreach programs and to partner with FLAG is an honor for our members and staff.
“To be part of a program to give back to our community means the world to me. This gesture of thanks and appreciation for what our firefighters, police and first responders do seems so small compared to what they face in the world today. I couldn't have more respect for all of them”, said Executive Chef Jose Fernandez.
His words were echoed by Deana Nisivoccia, General Manager of the Racquets Club, who commented that “it was an honor to be able to serve those who serve us every day. I am proud to be part of a club family that has such respect for our local heroes. Thinking about their dedication and strength in these challenging times is an inspiration!”
Members expressed their gratitude to being part of a club family that shares its appreciation for all its local heroes. Member-volunteers delivered food and were able to chat, as well as personally thank the Township's first line responders. The Racquets Club looks forward to its continued partnership with FLAG and the opportunity to get out into the community with some good grub!
