Rash of Burglaries to Motor Vehicles in Millburn; Residents Advised to Remain Vigilant and Lock Cars

On February 7, 2017, Millburn Police Officer Beyer responded to the Madewell store at The Mall at Short Hills on a forgery report. Madewell personnel report a black female wearing a black jacket used 2 counterfeit $100.00 bills to purchase a pair of jeans. The incident is under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.

On February 7, 2017, Millburn Police Officer Shanahan responded to Shoprite on Main St on a theft report. Shoprite personnel report on January 17", 2017, a black male with a beard wearing a NY Giants baseball hat, brown jacket, blue jeans, and black shoes concealed 22 packages of batteries valued at $263.78 and left the store without making payment. The same individual returned on February 2, 2017, and concealed 9 packs of 5-hour energy drinks valued at $170.91 and left the store without making payment. Both incidents are under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.

On February 8, 2017, Millburn Police Officer Crawn responded to the Aritzia store at The Mall at Short Hills on a theft report. Aritzia personnel report a black female wearing a grey/white winter hat, green puffy jacket, black shirt, grey pants, and black shoes concealed a camisole valued at $75.00 and left the store without paying. The incident is under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.

On February 9, 2017, Millburn Police Officer Crawn was on patrol when he located a 1999 Ford E150 at Millburn/Ridgewood that had been involved in a one car accident. The vehicle was reported stolen out of Kenilworth. The investigation led to the arrest of 41-year-old John A. O'Connor out of Staten Island and 47-year-old Glenn Priece out of Bridgewater for receiving stolen property. Mr. O'Connor and Priece were both remanded to the Essex County Correctional Facility.

On February 10, 2017, Millburn Police responded to reports of burglaries to motor vehicles on Linden St, Berkeley Rd, Myrtle Ave, Maple St, and Maple Terrace. The vehicles entered were a 2004 Toyota, 2014 GMC Pickup, 2008 Chrysler Aspen,2015 Honda Odyssey, 2002 Subaru Forester,2015Jeep Wrangler, 2010 GMC Acadia, and a 2017 Subaru Outback. The Maple Street and Maple Terr victims report change was taken from the vehicles. The other victims report nothing missing. The incidents are under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.

On February 10, 2017, Millburn Police Officer Crawn responded to 150 JFK Pkwy on a burglary to motor vehicle report. The victim reports parking his 2014 Honda Accord in the lot in the morning and returning at 9:30 pm finding the front driverside window shattered and the airbag and horn stolen. The incident is under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.

On February 10, 2017, Millburn Police Officer Aliotta responded to the Short Hills Train Station on a theft report. The South Terrace resident reports between 6:30 am - 7:00 pm an unknown actor took his grey mountain bike valued at $300.00 from the side of the train station. The incident is under investigation by the Milburn Police Detective Bureau.

On February 11, 2017, Millburn Police Officer Marone responded to a Wyoming Ave residence on a burglary to a motor vehicle report. The victim reports looking out the window and observing a thin black male get out of a grey Infiniti and enter her 2014 Porsche parked on the street. The victim yelled at the male who then fled. Nothing was taken from the vehicle. The incident is under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.

On February 11, 2017, Milburn Police Officer Barbosa responded to Macy's on a theft report. Macy's personnel report 20-year-old Kevin Antoine out of Newark concealed $405.00 worth of merchandise and left the store without making payment, Lance Sally, age 20 out of Newark, concealed $335.40 worth of merchandise and left the store without making payment. Both individuals were placed under arrest and charged with shoplifting before being remanded to the Essex County Correctional Facility.

On February 12, 2017, Millburn Police Officer Shanahan responded to the L’Occitane store at The Mall at Short Hills on a forgery report. L'Occitane personnel report a $100.00 counterfeit bill was passed on February 11, 2017. The incident is under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.

On February 12, 2017, Millburn Police Officer Shanahan responded to the Victoria Secrets store at The Mall at Short Hills on a forgery report, Victoria Secrets personnel report a 17-year-old male from Staten Island passed a counterfeit $100.00 to make a purchase. The juvenile was taken into custody and charged with forgery before being released to a relative.

On February 12, 2017, Millburn Police Sergeant Delrusso stopped a 2007 Nissan Maxima on Rt 24 East for operating without headlights. The investigation led to the arrest of the 23-year-old driver Dave Joseph out of Elizabeth for an outstanding traffic warrant out of Hillside, and 25-year-old passenger Laquan McClinton out of Elizabeth on an outstanding traffic warrant out of Newark. Both individuals were released with a new Court date.

On February 13, 2017, Millburn Police Officer Catinella responded to Shoprite on Main St on a theft report. Shoprite personnel report 46-year-old Douglas Darby out of Union concealed 3 items valued at $22.61 and was stopped as he approached the exit without making payment. Mr. Darby was placed under arrest and charged with shoplifting before being released with a summons.

Residents are reminded to keep their vehicles locked and to report suspicious vehicles and persons to the Millburn Police Department.
