WEST ORANGE, NJ, May 04, 2016 – The American Red Cross will be holding its Celebrate Red! fundraising gala on the evening of Thursday, May 12 at Mayfair Farms in West Orange, New Jersey. The event will recognize the incredible impact five honorees have in the community. Event guests will enjoy an evening of delicious cocktails and cuisine, live music, dancing and a fabulous auction in the historic setting of Mayfair Farms.
“Each of our honorees has made an incredible impact on the community and has graciously helped carry forward the Red Cross mission in New Jersey,” said David Lewis, interim regional CEO, American Red Cross New Jersey Region. “We are proud to honor their remarkable service.”
Honorees include Summit-based Celgene, Vas Nair of Jersey City, Jeanne Falco of Glen Ridge, Whippany-based Suburban Propane, and the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters.
Celgene, recipient of the William W. Augustine Award, is a long-time partner of the Red Cross, joining together for programs that contribute to the well-being of New Jersey communities. From disaster relief to health and safety education, Celgene has supported the Red Cross, whose mission parallels its own – to improve people’s lives. Their support has helped provide emergency assistance to families devastated by home fires, emergency communications to members of the Armed Forces, free smoke alarm installations to those in need and more.
Vas Nair, recipient of the Quinn Award, joined the American Red Cross New Jersey Crossroads Board of Directors in 2008 and brought with her a strong desire to foster the growth of one of the organization’s key resources – its people. As chair of the Human Resources Committee, Nair has used her expertise to provide teamwork, interpersonal communications and leadership development opportunities to support the professional development and personal growth of Red Cross volunteers and staff to help them better serve their community and fulfill the Red Cross mission.
Jeanne Falco, recipient of the Lifetime Service Award, has been a dedicated Red Cross volunteer for more than two decades. As a member of the Red Cross board of directors, Jeanne exercised her professional expertise to help the work of the Red Cross in northern New Jersey. Jeanne is passionate about Service to the Armed Forces and has become a key leader with the Northern New Jersey Board of Directors annual Adopt-A-Unit campaign, collecting and packing items for comforts of home packages to be shipped to members of the U.S. Armed Forces serving overseas.
Suburban Propane, recipient of the Bob Clancy Culture of Caring Award for Excellence in Red Cross Biomedical Services, has partnered with the Red Cross to raise awareness of the critical need for blood. They work tirelessly to increase blood and platelet donations during some of the most difficult times of the year. Last year, as part of their first summer-long campaign with the Red Cross, Suburban Propane supported a nationwide public service advertising campaign and employees volunteered nearly 850 hours to the Red Cross, with many donating blood at Suburban Propane-supported blood drives across the country.
The Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters’, recipient of the Bob Clancy Culture of Caring Award for Excellence in Red Cross Disaster Services, are avid supporters of the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign. Under the leadership of fellow council representative and Red Cross of Northern New Jersey Board Member Alex Lopez, more than 50 carpenters have joined the campaign and generously donated their time, tools and expertise to install free smoke alarms in homes that needed them. Thanks to their efforts, Paterson families in need have received free working smoke alarms to help keep them safe in the event of a home fire.
Proceeds from Celebrate Red! will benefit Red Cross programs and services, including disaster relief for families affected by local disasters such as home fires. Last year, the American Red Cross New Jersey Region responded to 889 local disasters, mostly home fires, to provide comfort and emergency assistance for temporary lodging, food and clothing as needed to 1,820 families.
