Rock Out Sept. 10 to Celebrate New Exhibitions at Montclair Art Museum

All are invited to the MAM Lawn Party, Saturday, September 10, 12–5 p.m. at the Montclair Art Museum (MAM)! This daylong celebration will highlight the opening of the Montclair Art Museum’s exhibitions Janet Taylor Pickett: The Matisse Series and do it and include a special Parents Who Rock 10th Anniversary Benefit Concert for MAM. Free and open to the public, a suggested donation supports MAM Art Truck artist residency programs at Side Door Montclair after-school locations.

The MAM Lawn Party will offer a first look at the Museum’s newest exhibitions Janet Taylor Pickett: The Matisse Series and do it. Rather than an exhibition of objects created by artists, do it is a collection of conceptual instructions provided by renowned artists and implemented by the community. At the MAM Lawn Party, two special do it performances will premiere. At 1 p.m. Michelangelo Pistoletto’s Sculpture for Strolling (1995), created by children from Succeed2gether with MAM Educator Rachel Cohen, will be ceremoniously rolled into the Museum. At 2 p.m. Dancer Titilayo Derricotte and Drummer Roderick Jackson will enact an original dance performance based on Joan Jonas’ Instruction (2002). Both performances will be recorded and become part of the exhibition.

The Parents Who Rock Benefit Concert will last all afternoon and feature over 20 local bands and performers! Parents Who Rock is a nonprofit association of musicians and others based in Montclair who volunteer their time and talents onstage and behind the scenes to raise money for not-for-profit organizations throughout the community. The group was founded by Alma Schneider in 2005 and has helped to raise more than $200,000 for local nonprofits and educational institutions.
