WEST ORANGE, NJ – Barry H. Ostrowsky, President and Chief Executive Officer for RWJBarnabas Health, was recently named one of ‘The 25 Most Influential People in New Jersey’ by NJ Advance Media.  This annual ranking recognizes exceptional individuals in the Garden State with the innate ability to affect change.

In creating this year’s list of the 25 Most Influential People, NJ Advance Media considered relevance in social, political and cultural realms, as well as an “X-Factor” to develop their scorecard.  Mr. Ostrowsky, the leader of New Jersey’s largest not-for-profit integrated health care delivery system, RWJBarnabas Health, the second largest private employer in the state, is in great company.  Also ranked on this list are Robert Barchi, President of Rutgers University; Governor Chris Christie; Bruce Springsteen; Jon Bon Jovi; US Senator Cory Booker; Stephen Colbert, Comedian; and others.

Mr. Ostrowsky leads RWJBarnabas Health’s initiatives ensuring the highest quality health care for patients, and is spearheading a state-wide endeavor to promote wellness and healthier living for all employees and the diverse communities it serves.

Mr. Ostrowsky has also been very vocal in speaking out about the need for more women leaders in executive positions and positions of power.  “I am proud of the efforts that we are making at our own institution, but there is always room for growth,” said Mr. Ostrowsky.  “The time has come for an honest conversation about the role that men, including myself, must play in ensuring equal access to leadership for women.  The bottom line is that decision makers in nearly every industry are men, and therefore it is incumbent upon us to facilitate the change needed.”

Mr. Ostrowsky joined Saint Barnabas Medical Center in 1991 as Executive Vice President and General Counsel. He served in the same role at Barnabas Health, when the System was created in 1996. He assumed the title of President and Chief Operating Officer in 2010, and became President and Chief Executive Officer in January, 2012.  Mr. Ostrowsky was recently named President and Chief Executive Officer of the newly formed RWJBarnabas Health.

Prior, Mr. Ostrowsky was a Senior Partner in the law firm of Brach Eichler. Throughout his career, Mr. Ostrowsky has been actively involved in many community organizations. He received a BA from Rutgers University and a JD from the University of Tennessee School of Law.
