SHORT HILLS, NJ - While the Short Hills Mall was packed with holiday shoppers Monday night, Saks Fifth Avenue had a different type of crowd as they held their second annual New York Jets Charity Fashion show. The company and the football team have had a longstanding business relationship.

About 150 preferred customers attended the event where players modeled Hugo Boss, Hickey Freeman, Bally, Giorgio Armani, Facconable, Saks Fifth Avenue Men’s Collection and several other brands. People also had the opportunity to take pictures with the athletes and win a signed football.

Throughout the evening, there were appetizers, drinks, dessert and music. Also, 10 percent of the proceeds from all sales from were donated to the Jets Foundation.

The players who modeled were Mike DeVito, D’Brickshaw Ferguson, Quinton Coples, Stephen Hill, Calvin Pace, Kyle Wilson, Bart Scott, Nick Folk and Demario Davis.

“We like the event because I think it has a nice feeling for our customers in fashion and sports,” said Saks Fifth Avenue Senior Vice President of Men’s Gifts and Homes Tom Ott.

The event started five years ago in Manhattan and Ott said it has been successful and well-received by the public. People like professional athletes, especially when they are able to see them out of uniform and talk to them, he said.

Jets defensive end Mike DeVito was excited to be at the event after he last participated in 2008. While most of the guys were picked to go, DeVito said he was amped to model and feels the team forgot what he looked like in a suit.

“This is a change of pace from a lot of the stuff that we usually do,” DeVito said.” It’s always good to be able to give back to the community, but still do something fun like this.”

Perth Amboy residents Krystal Sheron, Jackie Ruiz and Catia Santos said they thought it would be a fun night out to see athletes and do some shopping. Because they came a little late, they were hoping they would still be able to meet the players.

“So far it’s great, and the athletes are very personable,” Ruiz said

Tom Wragg of Westfield, who has been to many Jet functions before took his nephew Harrison Goldstein of Livingston and his friend to the fashion show.  Wragg said taking youngsters to events like this can give them memories that will last a lifetime.

“I thought it was a lot of fun getting to meet the players,” Goldstein said. “It’s cool to talk to professional athletes.”
