MILLBURN, NJ - With a flourish, the Millburn Farmers Market is now officially open for the season.

The kickoff to the seasonal activity involved a ribbon cutting attended by members of the township committee, as well as the chamber of commerce. The event took place at 2:00 p.m., and officially signaled one of the signs of summer in the township.

For Karen Cummins, who manages the farmers market, this year marks another one for the long-standing tradition. To the best of her knowledge, this it the twenty-fifth year the farmers market is in place, and she noted it is constantly changing for the better.

"We have gone out to get some new vendors this year and obviously get people who were successful last year," Cummins said. "We have clients who are really loyal, they come every week. They love it, so we really have to continue to service them."

For Cummins, there are some things she has to plan in advance each year before the farmers market returns, but overall, she said it has always been an enjoyable experience.

"[It's] very exciting and very nerve-wracking to make sure everybody fits," she added. "Some people get new tents and expand, but it's so much fun. I love it, and everyone who comes to the market loves it."

Dilys So was one of the customers at the market, as well a member of the Millburn/Short Hills Chamber of Commerce. So said she is a loyal shopper at the farmers market when it comes around.

"[I'm] very excited," So said. "I actually look forward to it every year. Particularly, I look for my balsamic dressing. [It's] only here they have it, and I'm very happy that they're coming back."

So also said that she would make a point to try and visit each week.

The market even pulled in out-of-town residents. Springfield resident Bill Roman was in town to check out the farmers market. While he does not live in town, his father works in Millburn, so he has seen the set up before. However, it was his first time visiting, and he gave it a thumbs up.

"I think it's great they're bringing it out here," Roman said. "I've seen them doing it consistently for the past couple years. Never made it over here, but it's always good to see the local businesses coming back and sharing their stuff with the community."

Roman added, "You've just got a parking lot here most of the week, and now you've got something cool to go look at and check out...it's nice."

The Millburn Farmers Market will no run every Tuesday from June 4 to Oct. 29, 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the corner of Main and Essex Streets. Limited free parking will be available on site.
