SHORT HILLS, NJ - Budd Larner, PC is pleased to announce the promotions of Karolina A. Dehnhard and David R. Tawil to to Shareholder.  The promotions are effective September 4, 2018.

Karolina A. Dehnhard, Esq.,who joined Budd Larner as an Associate in 2011 and was promoted to Counsel in 2015, has been promoted to Shareholder in the firm’s Family Law Department.  She focuses her practice on matrimonial law, including divorce, prenuptials, child custody, parenting time, alimony, child support and domestic violence issues.

In her years at the firm, she has represented clients in dealing with complex financial issues, including valuation of businesses both domestically and abroad; international custody rights; the impact that immigration status has on divorcing spouses and their children, addressing and enforcing foreign divorce decrees, and the complexities associated with alimony rights and post-judgment cohabitation.

Ms. Dehnhard was admitted to the New Jersey Bar and U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey in 2009.  After receiving her Juris Doctorate, magna cum laude, from New York Law School in 2009, Ms. Dehnhard had the honor to clerk for the Honorable Rosemary E. Ramsay, J.S.C., in Morris County Superior Court, Family Part and Civil Part.  While attending law school, she interned for The Honorable Michael Ambrecht, J.S.C., in the Supreme Court, Criminal Part, Manhattan, New York, as well as the Honorable Raymond T. Lyons, United States Bankruptcy Judge for the District of New Jersey. 

Ms. Dehnhard has appeared on TV shows and news programs, has published articles on divorce, custody, prenuptial agreements, the impact of immigration and divorce, and has co-authored a chapter in Understanding the Legal Issues Surrounding Same-Sex Marriage.  She hosts two radio shows, “The Law Matters” on WMTR Radio, and “There’s Always a Way Out”, on Radio RAMPA, which is hosted in Polish, which she speaks fluently.  She is a frequent contributor to numerous print publications on various topics in the area of family law, including North Jersey Woman Magazine, Industry Magazine, VUENJ, and in various Polish publications.  She is also a former adjunct professor at New York Law School.

She has been a featured presenter at numerous women in business events in both New Jersey and New York on topics including “Women Protecting their Assets,”  “Becoming the CEO of your Home,” “Promoting Financial Awareness Before and During Divorce,” and planning for the future.  On an international level Ms. Dehnhard has taken part in U.S. delegations to Ireland, Cuba and Spain, to develop international business relations amongst women in business.  Ms. Dehnhard continues to maintain community and leadership positions, with her most recent appointment as the President of the Polish American Chamber of Commerce for the North East, which serves to promote and foster global business relationships. 

Prior to becoming an attorney, Ms. Dehnhard enjoyed a successful career in the non-profit sector and was the Assistant Executive Director at Community Access Unlimited, overseeing residential and rehabilitative services for people with developmental disabilities. Underscoring her strong interests in advocating for women and children, Ms. Dehnhard presently serves as a Trustee and Board Member of the Show Me Your Heart Foundation, and is on the Leadership Committee of the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America Women of Action annual luncheon.  She also serves in other philanthropic roles for various charities, and continues to make an impact in the legal community, having been selected as Rising Star by the New Jersey SuperLawyers Magazine in 2018.

David R. Tawil, Esq., who joined Budd Larner as in 2012 as Counsel, has been promoted to Shareholder in the firm’s Family Law Department.  Prior to joining Budd Larner, Mr. Tawil was a partner at a matrimonial law firm in Morristown, New Jersey, where he had practiced for nine years.  He has appeared before the Family Part in virtually every county in the State of New Jersey.  

In his years at the firm as a member of the Family Law Department and as an experienced trial attorney, Mr. Tawil is admitted to practice in both New Jersey and New York. He focuses on all aspects of matrimonial law, including divorce, prenuptial agreements, child custody, parenting time, alimony, child support and domestic violence issues.  Mr. Tawil has extensive background in handling complex divorce proceedings, including business valuations, custody disputes, high income alimony and child support proceedings and equitable distribution of assets, including distribution of multi-faceted assets and deferred compensation. 

Mr. Tawil has lectured on various topics relating to divorce and matrimonial law including equitable distribution, spousal and child support, custody and parenting time and domestic violence.  Mr. Tawil is the co-author of both the 14th and 15th editions of the Domestic Violence Chapter of the New Jersey Family Law Practice Treatise.  He is the host of “The Law Matters,” a weekly talk show on WMTR Radio, and has appeared on numerous other radio programs to discuss matrimonial and family law, domestic violence, custody, adoption, bullying, immigration and other issues.  Mr. Tawil has been selected as a Rising Star by the New Jersey SuperLawyers Magazine annually from 2009 through 2017.  Mr. Tawil volunteers as a panelist for the Morris and Essex County Early Settlement Panel programs, and, additionally, serves as an Executive Board Member for Congregation Etz Ahaim. 

Mr. Tawil is a 2002 graduate of Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York City. During law school, he served an internship with the Honorable Nicholas Politan, Judge of the District of New Jersey. Following graduation, he served as a law clerk for the Honorable Thomas P. Zampino, Judge of the Superior Court, Essex County, New Jersey, one of the longest tenured matrimonial judges in the State of New Jersey.
