SHORT HILLS, NJ - Last night, Cub Scouts and Webelos of Pack 1 had their first meeting of the year.  Under the leadership of Scoutmaster Carol Pinkus, parents and their boys gathered in the gymnasium of The Winston School to begin another year of scouting.

Boys from the first through fifth grades gather monthly to learn scouting values such as building character, responsibilities of citizenship and physical fitness.  Each meeting consists of a group activity focused on a particular ideal of scouting.  Then the Pack divides into smaller groups, known as Dens, to focus on another facet of scouting.  A parent moderates the discussion and leads each Den.  Last night’s focus was on cleanliness.

Typical of most meetings, the scouts started off with the Pledge of Allegiance and ended with a short performance, performed by the scouts themselves, reflecting a value of scouting.  The next meeting is scheduled for September 30th.  Interested parents can contact Scoutmaster Carol Pinkus at carolpinkus@gmail.com
