Short Hills Second-Grader Records Fastest Time at President’s Cup 5K Run

MILLBURN, NJ – Hartshorn School student Chace Redler of Short Hills recorded the fastest time for an 8-year-old at the 38th annual President’s Cup 5K Run held in Millburn. According to published records by CompuScore, Redler’s time of 20:15.28 represents the fastest time for his age in the history of the race. His impressive performance also marks the third fastest time of all males in the 10 and under age group.

Of the 649 total runners, Redler finished in 61st place despite the rain and windy conditions that evening. He dominated his age group besting second finisher Cooper Hazday of Short Hills and third place finisher Brody Emrich of Short Hills by almost five minutes. Last year, Redler also won the special category for the 10 and under age group.

Daniel Skandera of Santa Rosa, Calif. holds the 5K-world record for an 8-year-old with a time of 18:39.1, according to the Association of Road Racing Statisticians.

Corey Weiss of Short Hills took top honors for the women with a time of 18:12.17. Weiss is a Millburn High School alumna and currently attends Elon University.

Top men’s finisher and recording the overall winning time of 15:16.97 went to Joshua Izewski of Doylestown, Pa.

There were 120 Millburn Township competing in this year’s President’s Cup. Christopher Stone of Short Hills recorded the best time amongst residents, finishing the race in 17:21.26. Stone finished in ninth place overall. Redler finished in seventh place in resident category.

The Millburn/Short Hills Chamber of Commerce presents the President’s Cup 5K every year.
