2015 marks the eighth season of the Farm & Fork Society, a local CSA (Community Supported Agriculture group). Serving residents of Millburn-Short Hills, Maplewood-South Orange, Summit, Livingston, West Orange and other surrounding neighborhoods, the Farm & Fork Society offerings include vegetables, fruit, poultry, farm fresh eggs, pasta and cider. The seasonal produce comes directly from the farmer and pick-up is every Friday from June 12 through November 20 in downtown Millburn.
New for the 2015 season is Early Bird pricing for all shares with the exception of cider. Early bird contracts must be received by March 1. Members can get Early Bird pricing for any or all shares. If members are not ready to commit there is flexibility to add on after March 1.
A CSA is a community of individuals who pledge support to a farm operation providing mutual support and sharing the risks and benefits of food production. Members pledge in advance to cover the anticipated costs of the farm and in return, they receive shares in the farm's bounty throughout the growing season. A CSA is invaluable to the farmer, providing him or her with the pre-production working capital necessary for a successful growing season.
Members of the Farm & Fork Society will be once again supporting Circle Brook Farm (formerly Starbrite Farm) in Andover, NJ, Breezy Hill Orchard in Staatsburg, New York and Knoll Krest Farm, Clinton Corners, NY. Farm & Fork Society will also be offering beef/pork from River Bend Farm, maple and honey products from Green Mountain Maple Sugar Refinery Company and other supplemental shares throughout the CSA season.
Members can purchase vegetable, fruit shares and full poultry shares and add on supplemental shares - egg, pasta, cider and half poultry (a biweekly delivery) - each is priced differently. The deadline for membership is May 1, 2015. Pricing, pick-up time and member commitment details can be found on the group’s website.
Farm & Fork Society is a 100% volunteer organization. The goal is to build a strong community within and around the farmer partners while providing healthy and seasonal food. The Farm & Fork Society has a long-term focus and commitment to bringing the best locally grown, sustainable, fruits and vegetables to the families who have become members.
