MILLBURN, NJ - The Millburn varsity softball team has an unusual level of experience returning from a team that enjoyed exceptional success a year ago.
Eleven players who made significant contributions to last year's 23-4 team are back this spring.

The all-conference battery of pitcher Jenna Dembner (who was 13-2 in the circle last year) and catcher Anna Mandel, both seniors, should help coach John Childs' team make a run at another 20-win season. Outfielder Chloe Radtke was another all-conference player returning for her senior season with the Millers.

Junior infielder Rachel Hubertus and sophomores Helen Casey and Katy Shepard also received year-end conference honors. Hubertus is an offensive powerhouse who batted .663 with 12 home runs and 52 runs scored in 2015.

Millburn won its first Super Essex Conference Colonial Division title in 2015 and appears poised to defend its crown.

"Our goal is to defend our conference title," Childs said. "We've had several scrimmages and the girls are working hard to play consistent softball offensively, defensively and in the pitching circle."

Millburn opens its season Friday at 4 p.m. at home against Science Park High School.
