MILLBURN, NJ - The fifth-graders of South Mountain School recently participated in a Shakespeare Residency program through the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey. This program, sponsored by SMS PTO, took place in the classroom over a couple of weeks and introduced the students to Shakespeare’s works and plays.

The Shakespeare Theatre teaching artists brought Shakespeare’s text to life through their performance based technique that combines reading, exercises and games. The students learned about Shakespeare’s language, story-telling and interpretation. The students ended their Shakespeare Residency by performing an abridged version of one of Shakespeare’s plays for their peers, parents and staff at South Mountain School.

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, located in Morris County on the Drew University campus, is one of the leading Shakespeare theaters in the nation. It is also New Jersey’s only professional theater company that is dedicated entirely to William Shakespeare’s authentic works.
