MILLBURN, NJ - Special guest speaker Joshua Koen, Chief Innovation Officer with the New Jersey Department of Education, will speak after the evening presentation of "Most Likely To Succeed", an award winning film presented by the Millburn PTOC on Wednesday, March 29.

Koen will address the integral role technology plays in developing our students as the innovators and problem-solvers for our future. Koen is Chief Innovation Officer with the New Jersey Department of Education (NJ DOE) who leads the state-wide efforts to provide guidance, resources and technical assistance to schools and districts on how to leverage technology to enhance effective classroom practices and promising school-wide efforts to re-envision schools. Prior to joining the NJ DOE, he served as the Executive Director for Data, Assessment and Education Technology with the Newark Public Schools and led the PARCC implementation deploying over 10,000 devices to students, data-driven instruction, and leadership on the design and implementation of the district-wide educational technology strategic initiatives. Previously, Mr. Koen was the Director of Information Technology with the Passaic City Public Schools where he initiated, designed, and led a large-scale 1:1 Chromebook initiative to 4,800 students.  Over the course of two years, Mr. Koen and his team planned, led, and developed Professional Development materials on what a 1:1 teacher needs to know and leveraged E-Rate funds to complete a district-wide network and classroom technology overhaul to support a high-density, technology rich 1:1 environment in the middle and high school.

Prior, Mr. Koen worked for the Center for Innovation in Engineering and Science Education at Stevens Institute of Technology as the Manager of Professional Development where he directed and authored professional development programs for K-16 teachers, administrators, and faculty in the US and abroad and served as a Peace Corps volunteer training teachers and developing curriculum in the Dominican Republic.
