State FMBA Honors Millburn and Summit Firefighters for Valor During New Year's Eve Blaze

MILLBURN, NJ - Firefighters from Millburn and Summit will receive the Group Effort Valor Award from the New Jersey State Fireman Benevolent Association (FMBA) hailing their collective rescue efforts at a fire that occurred in the Hilltop City on December 31, 2017. The awards will be presented at the Pines Manor in Edison on April 21.

The five-alarm blaze, in an apartment building located at 125 Summit Avenue, displaced approximately a dozen families, and sent two individuals to Overlook Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Chief Eric Evers of the Summit Fire Department said of the firefighters, “Their commitment to the Summit Fire Department and the citizens of Summit is acknowledged and greatly appreciated. I am proud that they have all presented themselves in the highest tradition of the fire service, saving the life of another”.

On July 11, 2018 Millburn Police Officer Shanahan stopped a 2014 Honda Accord on Millburn/Vauxhall for speeding. The investigation led to the arrest of 22 year old Lyes Yakoubi of Jersey City on an outstanding traffic warrant out of West Windsor.
