Students at Morristown's Peck School Selected for Statewide Chemistry Challenge

Finalists in regional "You Be The Chemist" Competition

MORRISTOWN, NJ - Four chemistry students from The Peck School in Morristown recently participated in the BASF “You Be The Chemist” Challenge at the BASF Headquarters on Park Avenue in Florham Park. Along with students from other regional schools, sixth graders William Tsai, (Boonton) and Jordan Cheung (Berkeley Heights), along with seventh graders Bruce Dubel (Brookside) and Sanjana Shah (Montville) competed in the regional competition.

BASF is a national sponsor of the challenge, which is organized by the Chemical Educational Foundation (CEF). This is a national academic question and answer competition that motivates fifth to eighth grade
students to test their knowledge of chemistry concepts and their real-world applications as they compete to represent their state on a national level.

Students who place at the local level advance to state competitions with hopes of representing their state and competing at the national competition on June 19, 2017 where the top four finalists will receive
scholarships totaling $18,500.

Tsai and Dubel will join six other students to advance to the state competition. Shah was selected to advance to the state competition as an alternate. This is the second year Peck has participated in the competition. Last year three students were also selected to advance as participants and alternates.
