MORRISTOWN, NJ, – On Saturday, February 25, 40 students from The Peck School in Morristown traveled to Monmouth University in West Long Branch, NJ to participate in one of three regional New Jersey National History Day Competitions. This is the largest group of students from the school to qualify for the competition since its inception. The students presented 19 separate group and individual projects in categories ranging from research papers and exhibits, to websites, performances and documentaries.

Of the 40 participants, 17 Peck students were nominated by the judges to proceed to the State Competition on May 6 at William Paterson University. Of the 35 separate projects selected to proceed from this division, over one quarter of the regions winners (6 projects) originated at The Peck School. Winners in the upcoming state competition will proceed to a national competition in June.

As noted on the organization’s website, “The National History Day program is a year-long education program that culminates in a national contest every June. For more than twenty-five years the National History Day program has promoted systemic educational reform related to the teaching and learning of history in America's schools. The combination of creativity and scholarship built into the NHD program anticipated current educational reforms, making National History Day a leading model of performance-based learning.”
