Special Education Week

The week of May 14th – 20th, 2017 has been designated as “Special Education Week” in the Garden State. This year’s theme, “Bright Tomorrow for Today’s Students” celebrates the promise of positive outcomes for students with disabilities. Of course, that is always the goal for our students here in Millburn. In the SEPAC (Special Education Parent Advisory Committee) Spring/Summer Newsletter, Secondary Supervisor, Brent McGuinness shares a recent student success story, about a senior who has won a scholarship award from the Learning Disabilities Association of NJ.  Read the rest of this story and learn about the many activities of our Special Services Department in the SEPAC Newsletter.
Technology Evening Thanks

Sign Up for E-News

I want to thank Assistant Superintendent, Kyle Arlington and Teacher Technology Integration teacher, Liz Bagish for coordinating this week’s Parent Technology Evening. The parents who attended had the opportunity for hands-on learning about Millburn’s use of critical tools for technology integration. It was also the first of what we hope will be a series of district programs to facilitate home/school connections and give parents a bird’s eye view of what is happening in our classrooms from your child’s vantage point. Thank you also to the classroom teachers who spent the evening sharing these important tools with parents. Their enthusiasm for the technology they are using, and the results they see in their students, highlighted the importance of technology integration in our curriculum and our classrooms. (Thanks to: Brigid Cunningham, Theresa Gonnella, LaDawna Harrington, Bob Keenan, Marylou Kirk, Jessica Landis, Kate Lissy, Dani Mackessy, Suzie Michael, Jessica Purpura, Vicki Raudelunas, Ann McKay Thoroman, Patricia Yong and the MMS TIGS, MASH, SOAR and WISH Peer Leaders.) If you were unable to attend this program, Mr. Arlington’s overview may give you an idea of what you missed.
Board of Education Meeting Monday

Please join us at Monday’s Board of Education meeting for a presentation by our high school Student Liaison Committee. The students will share the results from the survey they completed. We are looking forward to hearing the data that they collected from staff and students.
Fleet Week 2017

We are thrilled to be the only high school in New Jersey selected as the location of the Marine Corps’ annual Fleet Week display of military aircraft and equipment. On the morning of Thursday, May 25, four Marine Corps aircraft will land on the Millburn High School fields. (Alert for helicopters overhead!) The display will be open to high school students from 10 a.m. to 1:30. Community Members are invited from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., all members of the community are invited to interact with the Marine pilots, tour the four aircraft, and visit additional demonstrations by the military and our local police, fire and EMTs. Parking will be available on the front lawn of the high school. It will be a great kickoff to Memorial Day weekend. Mark your calendar for Millburn’s annual Memorial Day parade, beginning at 11 a.m. at Millburn High School to come out to remember all who served our country.
Fingers crossed that our streak of great Strawberry Festival weather continues for Wyoming School on Wednesday, May 24!
