February 12, 2016 – Susan G. Komen North Jersey will be encouraging guests at their gala Pink Tie Affair to “inspire hope, celebrate life, and be part of the cure.” The Affiliate's signature event, which will be held March 4th at the premier Pleasantdale Chateau in West Orange, will feature the introduction of a new class of heroes: the Affiliate’s inaugural class of PINK TIE GUYS and its 2016 "Journey of Courage."
This year's Pink Tie Guys, all top executives and business leaders in northern New Jersey, have made a personal commitment to actively and financially support the Komen mission to save lives and end breast cancer. They are, to date: Robert Schultz (Boonton Township) and Ashley Schultz (Millburn), Owners, Schultz Furrier; Neal Schuman (Upper Saddle River), CEO & President of Arthur Schuman, Inc.; Joe Sheridan (Hillsborough), President & COO of Wakefern Food Corp; and Kenneth P. Wenger (Maplewood), Senior Vice President of PNC Investments. As Pink Tie Guys, these exceptional leaders will serve as ambassadors and advocates for breast health action and breast cancer awareness, and help mobilize, energize and engage individuals and groups in the breast cancer movement. “Our Pink Tie Guys are critical to realizing our vision of a world without breast cancer,” says Kelly Witkowski, Executive Director of Komen North Jersey. “They bring a unique male voice to the urgency of finding a cure. We are deeply grateful to have their support on so many levels, and we are looking forward to working with them to inform, influence and inspire our communities.”
In a time-honored “Pink Tie” tradition, Komen North Jersey will unveil the portrait of its 2016 “Journey of Courage” Marc A. Futterweit, Esq. (Wayne) at the event. An eight-year survivor and breast cancer advocate, Futterweit will be the 47th survivor to be immortalized in the Affiliate’s Journeys of Courage Photo Essay, a unique collection of beautiful portraits. “Every breast cancer diagnosis is the start of a journey that requires incredible inner strength and courage,” says Witkowski. “For many survivors, this personal battle inspires a compelling need to give back, to do something, to make a difference. Marc is an exceptionally committed advocate and passionate crusader who is doing tremendous things to heighten awareness of this terrible disease that affects both men and women. He is a true inspiration.”
There will also be a rare opportunity to learn first-hand about one particular research study that is supported by Susan G. Komen’s groundbreaking national research program—Komen Scholar David Mankoff, M.D., Ph.D, who is the Gerd Muehllehner Professor of Radiology and Chief of the Division of Nuclear Medicine and Clinical Molecular Imaging at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, will be the evening’s Distinguished Speaker.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a gala “Affair” without the requisite fun-factor, and fabulous opportunities for giving. The elegant cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be a prelude to an exquisitely-prepared dinner, intermingled with a bit of dancing (and prancing) to the rock ‘n roll sounds of The Kootz band. But the real essence of Pink Tie Affair is about giving generously. Rest assured, with an abundance of coveted silent auction items and a thrilling live auction, there will be lots of chances for guests to “be a part of the cure.”
All in all, it promises to be a memorable, “feel good” kind of evening, thanks in no small part to the generosity of Pink Tie Affair sponsors Atlantic Health, Barnabas Health, C. R. Bard, Dun & Bradstreet, Goya Foods Inc., PSEG, Ronetco Supermarkets, The Schum Family, Wakefern Food Corp and TAPinto.net.
