MILLBURN, NJ — 19 years ago today, the face of both Lower Manhattan and Millburn were changed forever, as the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks forged terrible scars in both communities, and many others throughout the tri-state area, that still resonate to this day.
Eight Millburn residents lost their lives in the attack. Their names are as follows:
- Tommy Clark
- Richard Madden
- Patrick Murphy
- Don Peterson
- Ian Schneider
- Mark Charette
- Steven Lillianthal
- Frank Spinelli
On this day, and every day, we mourn them, and we remember them. May their memories be a blessing, and may their families find comfort. Remember also, the sacrifice of first responders who ran towards the danger on that clear September morning.
And as we honor and commemorate those who gave their all, we must remember that there is more which unites us than divides us. Only by staying together as one people and one community can we truly bring that full measure of honor and devotion.
