MILLBURN, NJ – Dr. Ted D’Alessio, Millburn High School’s revered Athletic Director, will be honored at this Wednesday’s Spring Band Concert. He will be retiring after 40 years of dedicated service to Millburn Township public schools.
Dr. Theodore F. “Ted” D’Alessio joined the Millburn Public Schools in 1976 as a Health & Physical Education teacher and coach and served in those capacities until 1983, during which time he was an Assistant Football Coach and also the Head Coach of the Winter and Spring Track teams. He was appointed Director of Athletics in 1993, and has served in that role for the last 23 years with distinction. As Director of Athletics, he is responsible for 29 varsity sports as well as 47 junior varsity and freshman-level programs involving 75 coaches.
The Millburn High School music department will feature the world premiere performance of E.E. Cummings poems for wind ensemble along with a special presentation to Ted D’Alessio.
The Symphonic Band Blue and Symphonic Band White (students in grades 10-12), and Concert Band (students in grade 9) will perform works by Frank Ticheli, Pierre La Plante, David Gillingham, Brian Balmages, Robert Sheldon, and Steven Reineke, depicting summer days, morning sunshine, joyous occasions, and beautiful scenery.
All senior band members will be recognized at this concert for their contributions to the music department. The MHS Music Boosters will be selling refreshments and accepting donations and memberships throughout the evening.
