MILLBURN, NJ - Three Millburn High School (MHS) juniors are continuing their mission to help spread awareness of sexual abuse and raise funds for RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) with an annual 5K Run through the South Mountain Recreation Complex Waterfront. As members of the Helping Hands Club at MHS Sydney Clawans, Hannah Levinson and Annika Sharma combined their passion for running as members of the MHS Cross Country and Track team, with their passion for making a difference in our community and beyond.
This 2nd annual 5K kicks off on Sunday, May 6 with bib pickup at 10:30 am. In addition to the 5K there will be a kids fun run, an ice cream truck, a DJ, raffles, and more activities. The Girl Talk Millburn Chapter is organizing a bake sale to support the fundraising effort.
The run will again support RAINN, which helps victims of abuse and domestic violence across the nation. The 2017 5K raised $4000 last year through their efforts.
RAINN’s victim services programs helped a record 209,480 survivors and their loved ones. As #MeToo has spread, the number of people reaching out for help has continued to increase. In the first quarter of 2018, RAINN’s programs helped 46% more people than in the prior year.
